Calico fabric is a plain base cloth with a natural finish and is an incredibly affordable fabric with so many uses: Calico is a perfect fabric to use to test out new patterns before you make the final garment.

Calico fabric can also be used for trying out dyeing technics and makes a great base cloth for bags, aprons or even as a quilting backing (especially as it is wider than other patchwork and quilting cottons).

In furnishing and upholstery calico is used as a hard-wearing material to line cushions among other uses.

If you need a reliable and versatile basic fabric, calico is pretty perfect and this medium weight wide-width version will not disappoint.
